 Topic: Oil Pan Gaskets

How are the ends of the oil pan gaskets (side and end) supposed to mate up? Are they supposed to be trimmed, tucked in, smashed together, or what? This is a D17 Series I.

What did you trim? The side gaskets flush with the end gasket? The end gasket flush with the rim?

I trimmed the side gasket over the rim gasket and applied a thin layer of non hardening rtv on the pan side and at the overlap.

So is there a difference in the 17 compared to the WD and 45 pan gaskets? The instructions for them say Do Not trim the gasket. It is to be squeezed in place.

I don't know. No where have I seen any mention of trimming either the end or the side gasket, but squeezing all that together looks like an invitation to a problem. Two fellows have successfully taken the trimming approach. I'm nervous about this because I want this to be the last time this job needs to be done for a long time.
