Did some research here on a 6080 4WD that I passed on. Now I am looking at a 6060 2WD. These are the things I've learned. Thrust bearing is not as big a problem on 6060, smaller clutch, so position of PTO clutch lever is not as important, still best if forward or engaged. 8 speed transmission may be a drawback, too big a jump between 4L and 1H. May be cold blooded. Many say this is the best engine Allis ever made. I understand the rest of the tractor is Fiat.
How many hours before a major? How is traction with 28 inch rear? Anything else I should look for? Or other shortcomings? Good condition value? I am thinking $6-7K?.

Dad has had his since new ('81) Fuel Pump had to be rebuilt as the o-rings deteriorated inside. Otherwise it has been reliable but we only have 2000 hours on it.
Clutch needs to be replaced but dad does leave his foot on the pedal. Brakes are strong 3 to 4 is synchronized. Otherwise gearing is OK, but we still wish for a PD. Steering is easy Cold blooded as heck. Wish it had preheat. Good on Fuel and the motor is pretty dang strong. Ours is not rear weighted but works fine with 3-16's or 10' disk Front gets light, you need a rack of weights if using 3 point planter or other heavy implements. exhaust is way tall and snags every freakin tree out there.

Hours before a major cannot be determined. Everyone uses and maintains their tractors differently - These factors determine the engine's lifespan better than the number of hours on the machine.
6060s were the weak sellers of the line due to the 8 speed transmission and 28" tires. If you are not in a hurry, I would keep holding out for a 6080. Depends what kind of work you will be doing with it. Keep in mind, some 6080s did come with 28" tires, don't ask me why...

I can chime in on 6080 longevity. We have 2 the '85 developed a hole in a sleeve at about 7000 hours and the '84 I had rebuilt at around 8000 hours. The '84 was still doing decent but like how the other one started with a rebuild so I had that one done as well besides I felt I was on borrowed time.

We had a 6080 that we traded with 9800 original hours on it. It had a coolant filter that we changed religously every year. That engine worked as good the day it left as the day it came.

Traction is fair with 28" rears. Just hit 5000 hours all original although pump will need rebuild soon. My biggest complaint is the gear selection and the 2 shifters. Not enough forward gear choices and reverse high range is stupid fast and reverse low range is too slow. They have about 10 safety switches (give or take) and if they don't all agree with each other they can cause electrical issues. Many people just bypass them although unsafe I guess. Even with all my complaints I do like the tractor and they are pretty tough little units.

Nobody answered my value question. It is not as nice a Charlie's picture. The seat is shot and it has <5000 hours. Tires are 50%? We are getting ready to go look at it. Will probably have some more questions. Several on Tractor House for $6500, so I am thinking $7K tops. This is Ford and JD country, so the Allis will be hard to move if it doesn't work out.

About all I do with this 6060 is mow with a 10' three point hitch
cutter. It handles great and is very easy to maneuver, very nimble. Has
2800 plus hours and doesn't leak or burn oil.

Value I am not sure, I haven't seen many for sale. It will do everything a new 60 HP will do but cheaper.
