I have a series 4 d 17 that has been sitting in our shed for a couple of years got it out to use in Hay and the 3 point hitch lift arms will not work correctly start the engine they go up push lever down they stay up wont go down cut off engine they will go down I guess there is something stuck but I don't know where any help would be appreciated Thanks DD

Check the TB valve spool. It is only spring-loaded to return and sometimes can hang up.
Also, check to make sure the linkages for the 3pt lift and "bellcranks" are free and not rusted or stuck.

I had that experience as well as Skyhighballoon(Mike)
The problem in our case was that the draft control lever was stuck. There was a bolt at the pivot point that had seized up. A few minutes with some PB Blaster and a couple wrenches solved the problem.
