WD Hydraulic Failure?

I am a zero when it comes to WD's.  All I have with the books is a D 15 II.  Anyway here is a story.
 
This guy has a WD with factory hydraulics.  A long time ago he remembers the shifting got messed up and they had to take the cover off the trans and realign the forks and all was well for years.  The other day a friend of his was gonna help him move the tractor by pushing it.  So he reached up and was gonna put it in neutral without the clutch.  I did this many times with different tractors on concrete floors.  Anyway the allegator crawled out of the swamp and the shifting mechanish jumped out of whatever.  So they took the top off realigned everything and put it back together and walla it shifts fine.
 
Now out of the clear blue he has no hydraulics and thinks something happened when they had the top off the tranny or when his friend put it in neutral.  I don't know if there could be a correlation or not.  Is that possible or what is your wildest guesses as to what we should look for in the am.

  clutch has to be engaged for hydraulics to work

Norm's right! foot clutch disengages hydraulics on WD's
My WD shifter jumps out all the time so I've got REAL good at fixing it by just pulling the shifter out and setting it wherever I happen to be!
There's probably a "Fix" for that too,but I've not persued it because I'm gonna replace the tranny this fall anyway!

OK so surely the guy has let the foot clutch out.  He has had he tractor for eons and used the hydraulics before.  I would not think CRS has set in that bad?

There would be no connection between the shifter problem or the fix to it and the hydraulics not working. If the foot clutch is engaged( let out) and the hydraulics don't work, check the fluid level. The dipstick should be at the full mark with the lift arms extended. Any number of other things could cause problems, including sludge build up in the bottom of the reservoir, a broken bypass spool, sticking plungers, etc.

does the WD hve the hyd hose and cylinder like on the D series where the hose tends to rupture after a few decades?  This is in the rock shaft rea.  I replaced the hose on the D 15.

Nope, all of the WD plumbing is external.

Just got back from looking at the ole WD.  Nice straight all there tractor that purrs like a kitten.  WeLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, we found this little stubby dip stick on the left side that was dry.  Dumped a bunch of oil in there until it came up on the stick and the hydraulics work like new.  I don't know what to say about that, but thanks again for your time.
