I have been working on my buddies tractors again. He has two JD 70 Diesel tractors. One of them has the pony engine and runs well. However, it is missing a few parts. Nice and cobbled up. Working on these make me appreciate Allis Chalmers a lot more! Neat machines but what dinosours. Amazing they stuck with that design for so long. He has a WC, RC, and a C that I am looking forward to getting to soon. I'll be back in familier territory.

I owned an A once and my WD was a far better tractor and had better power. That A would bog down too early and then eventually stop. My WD wouldn't give in doing the same job. I've always said just because they run slow with big cubes that don't mean they pull good. Shouldn't beat up on another brand like that but I can't help it when it comes to those 2 bangers.

I went to an auction of a customer of mine that had two 70 diesels back in the fall and I thought that both of them went to Michigan. Just curious.

Me thinks is JD had not gotten the "new generation" going in 1960 they would have been a has been company or totally out of business by now. AC and IHC could have been #1 & 2 instead of no more and owned by Fiat. I suspect one of the reasons JD survived even with the antiquated 2 cylinder tractors is their strong dealer presence. Something for AGCO to consider.

I agree John. Also, the JD marketing is great. A lot like Harley Davidson now. John Deere has an image and a lot of people like that image.
