There's a 712s for sale locally and I wanted to look at it but want to know what I'm looking for. The ad says it runs but needs 3 tires and the center spindle on the mower deck replaced. Comes with the mower deck, I don't know what size, and a tiller. He's asking $775 and I can't justify that especially it needing 3 tires and the deck spindle. It appears to be in good shape from the picture. If I decide to go look at it, what should I be looking for? If it does run and operate like it should and the tiller works and the spindle is all the deck needs, what's it worth? I figure if the seller is telling the truth about the problems, it should bring $200 to $250. Am I very far off one way or the other? After all, it is a 40ish year old garden tractor

The 700 series Tractors are one of my favorites models. I would say, if a tiller didn't come with it, it would be on the high side. Spindles are a common problem with mower decks no matter who the mfr is, so that is usually a given unless they were already replaced at one time by the Previous owner before it went up for sale. To me, if the tiller is in good working order and shape, as well as the engine in the tractor, I would say it would be worth $500-$700. If the tiller is beat, then much less. I've seen tillers for the 700 series in nice shape sell by themselves for $250.-$450 Tires aren't that expensive to purchase for it. Just some labor time changing them over... HTH

Ok. Thanks. If I get a chance to go have a look I'll report back with what I find
