Don't ya love it when you look on graigslist, and what you want is 8 miles away?

Just snagged this little 611.  Needs some deck work, but parts are available, so I think I'm in business for the season.  I don't think teaching my son's how to drive on the mower is so good for the mower.  We've managed to wipe out 1 every-other year.  I'l bet this one lasts a little longer :)

Does that one have the 5 speed trans Jim??  If it does then its a 611LTD, if its the 3 speed then its a 611LT.  I think they also made some hydros in a higher horse power.  I sold a lot of those for less than  2000  bucks a pop new.  The ladies in town loved em, easy to get on, easy to run, turned short, just a nice little mower and I would fix them when they ran over junk in the yard!!!!!!

Jim, I hate to say this, but the old Cub Cadets are as close to indestructible as can be. Old Wheel Horse is right behind them in that category. Still a nice little find though.

Skip,  It's the hydro.  Still just 11hp, or at least it was from the factory.  Seems  little weak, but the gov was completely out of adjustment when I brought it home.

Brian, the 1 mower they killed was a big, old Wheel horse.    I just couldn't get parts anymore, and the deck needed too many pieces to make it worth it.  The #2 was a lawn boy.  Piece of junk.  Worked nice for 1 season, and then started to disintegrate too.  Needed 3 spindles because of the way it held the blades, if  nut were just a bit loose, it spun, and ruined the spindle.  I welded them on to finish out last year and had just started looking.
Would have loved to grab the 3cyl diesel advertised here, but it had "issues" and was $1100.  This one was $275.

they were a nice mower, the hydro might be weak, not much fix to em as they are a gerotor motor.  Might try a little heavier oil if it slips to much when warmed up.  Good luck Jim

Finally got the arbor and other deck parts all installed.  It's not cutting right.  One blade is lower than the other by about 1/2 inch.  Any way to fix, other than shim the whole arbor assembly?

typical Norm.  Who is looking for Wheel Horse?  Let's see, I'm an Allis dealer, wonder where I would buy parts?

Nice score Jim. Brian, I had a Cub Cadet 70 with a retro 10 hp and later put that engine in a 100. They were heavy duty mowers but when I got tired of fixing things(after using them for 10 years) I bought an $800 throw away MTD. I wished I'd have done it years sooner cause I cut my mowing time in half. I ran that thing for 12 years and have parts of it on my backup mower and it is still going.(2 89 models and 1 90 model made a good usable mower).
