 Topic: stock wc pulling questions

How well do wc do in div.1 stock pulls? I had planned on pulling div 2 but after years of watching allis trying to compete it seems you need some series $$$ to make them compete because of the 38 inch wheels. My wc already as a set of old firestone 12.4-28 on it, the engine is basically a d17 inside. I am thinking it would be easier and just as fun to pull in stock form. I might have to change the engine back to a 201 because it is a "stock class" and winners are subject to a dyno session in some clubs. So my question is, if I go back to 201 rebuild will it have enough to compete on stock level?
I have watched many videos on youtube of seemingly unrestored wc pulling on 24 or 28 inch wheels, some power out and cant break tires loose and some seem to do it with no problem. I am guessing a rebuild with over bores might yield 34 hp, is it enough in 3500 or 4000lb class?
What is your experience-- opinions? Thanks, JM

I do decent in 3500, 4000, and 4500 with a stock 201 with a D17 spring and dry air filter. I dyno 32hp. Sometimes I power out, sometimes I spin out. Usually I power out.

I should be there. I'm running 13.6x28's right now. After I do some engine work I'm going to something.....probably the 14.9's off my diesel....road worn and hard. 38's take a lot of engine with a WC unless you have a sherman step down trans.

We pull two WCs in a stock type 3mph class at 3500 & 4000 pounds. They both are running 14.9 X 24 tires on stock width (8") rims. The 37 is a very stock spec. 201 and the 38 has a fairly mild 240 cid engine that turns about 2000 rpms. Although we have won with both tractors when we pull these tractors in the same class the "stock" 37 has ususally beat the hotter combination. Both tractors typically spin out before powering out. When the 38 moves up to our 4.5mph class it does much better, in fact it has really dominated the 4000 pound 4.5 class. In true stock type Div. I classes you are hard pressed to find a tractor better than a WC at these weights. Good Luck! Kip
