In an earlier post on engine building, compression with a 226 engine makes 60-70 hp. Any idea what a 201 with 12to1 compression and big carb 45 manifold might make? 50-60?

it might make 50 i think more in the 40s. why would you even want to start out 25 cubic inches less. m and w advertised a 4 1/8 overbore with virtually no compression change other than what the bore gained made 8 horses over the factory new 201. I believe it . The 201 and 226 head are restricted on the intake side so much that larger bores and more stroke help in getting more air flow in the cylinder than any one thing you could do. 226 1/8 over bore 12.1 compression and a worked over head made 80 honest horses not 60 not 70. Also the 464 carb is over rated way better carbs out there for better performance in there original factory condition.
