I have an irrigation power unit that says on the tag 2900 mk 2 649 T. it has the in line simms pump on it. what else was this engine used in? a Gleaner L or M ?. I need info on parts for a rebuild and a service manual . has about 3000 hrs on it but the turbo went out and sent metal into engine also had a cracked exhaust manifold and let water in. former owner then pulled it out of service and then i got ahold of it. I plan on makeing a generator out of it. Thanks for help

1972/1973 model "L" Gleaner used a 2900 with a Simms in-line pump. They were never called a 649-T in those years. That designation came around 1977 and newer. Look around all over the block and see if you can't find a casting date like 72 or 78 etc.....this would give a better idea of the age of the unit. If it has a large oil cooler that wraps most of the way around the engine, it's closer to the 1972-73 era. If the oil cooler is above the injection pump area only, it's later like 1977 and up.

I pulled a bunch of parts out of one of those engines, a coupla years back, that was in a buffalo springfield roller, IIRR. It had thrown a rod, but I was able to salvage the manifold, and turbo, and head. Threw my back out moving that monster head, by myself!

i just went and took a peek for #,s. I thought the tag stated 649 t and 2900 MK II. Serial # 2d-102473 . Model # 2900 MK II. ctalog # 4024290 and other # of 1-7451-86413. The oil cooler goes from water pump to back of motor and around just to the other side.
