 Topic: new to pulling

Hi guys I am going to give pulling a go. I have never pulled but has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I have the chance to buy a wd that has been set up for pulling. Looking for advice of anything to look for.It has new tires front and rear. I have been around and worked on construction equipment since I was 16.

I've heard older rear tires are better for pulling though I've never had new tires myself. One thing I suggest if you buy it ask lots ofquestions as to how its set up since if its truely set up too pull you may find lots of things that aren't set up to stock specs.

Its got a switch to shut off the alternator does that make a difference? And all the unnecessary wait has been stripped so it. will go in a lighter class. What does a wd usually pull against?

It does save a little horsepower believe it or not my buddy has a case vac he did that to with the alternator you can hear a difference in the motor when you flip the switch as its idling. It should make 3500lb pretty easily so for example with my wc's in 3500 at our club I pull against a farmall h and a 230 we had a guy who use to pull a sc case lots of WC's oliver 66 and so on in 4000 its more far malls a ford 900 I believe occasionally a few fords d14 and oliver 77s and such just depends WD wd45 also

The snap hitch and hydro stuff is off. I thought he said it would get in the 3000 class.

I'm not gonna say its impossible I don't think I've ever seen a WD make 3000 my both my wc' can make 3000 but just barely. Neither of them have a PTO anymore no gen or salt the styled has all aluminum weight brackets 9 bolt tin rims with 13.6 38's

I have stripped my WD just about all I can, I do still have the hand clutch, which is about 75# I could still loose. The weight brackets on the front middle and rear weigh somewhere around 250#. Without any cast iron, 2.5 gallons fuel, mine weighs around 3300#. I cant imagine it in the 3000#, with a driver. I have my alternator on a switch also, usually turn it on with ignition and off with ignition, I am sure it robbs me of HP but how much?? 1/2 hp? Our engine requires a hotttt battery and strong starter, a couple of cranks and thats it without charging, so I run it all the time.

Like I said new to the big tractors. Thats why I'm asking you guys thanks for help the help. I intend to move up from 60's allis garden tractors to a full size. We have restored 9 of them in the last couple years time to move up. Thanks again.
