please help me decide if i should buy this wd45 230 that i recently found. the big question i have is how does it compare to the gasser in pulls. i see that the gas in tests had trouque of 288lbs vs 259lbs . also the 226 in the info i have from books says the gas has alittle tiny more hp then the 230. if both tractors had nf's and everything esle the same which one would you have your money on ???? thanks
by the way im doing very well with my 226 yesterday getting 1st in 4000/5000/6000 at the local pull. just trying to get another tractor so dad could have fun with me

I think the 230 could be a good puller, it was rated somewhere around 80 hp in the Gleaner A. I had one in a Cockshutt 40. But the 226 is a mighty fine engine itself.

the cockshutt 40's had a 262 in it , i'm very skeptical about the 230 being rated at 80 hp bye almost double. more like 40-50. i agree the 226 is a fine engine and the 230 could be a decent puller also.

Never heard of a 40 coming with a 262 from the factory, 40s had a Buda 230 (gas or diesel) 50s had a Buda 273 (gas or diesel). Some have had a 262 transplant. |

The HP ratings for any combine are flywheel HP which is more than PTO HP. The RPM is also at 2100 rpm too instead of 1400 RPM on a tractor.......not exactly apple to apples comparison.

well i was wondering does the 230 have issues like the 262 blowing head gaskets? i realize that the 230 will be heavier up front then a 45 with 226 but is it just better to stick with the 226 i have and get dad another 45 with 226?

Rob. Are talking about a WD-45 diesel or one with a 230 gas engine conveersion? I don't think that the 230 or 262 gas have a head gasket issue but 262 with the turbo in a D-19 diesel is another story.

I think the gas engines had very few problems with heads and gaskets , but the gas engines still needed a cool down period after being worked hard before shut down. I hope to tell you yet this year how a 262 gas performs in a WC chassis.
