I have an model M crawler with a dozer blade on it.  I have the instruction bood that is for the model as well a 2 parts books.  I have located the boss where the tractor serial number is suposed to be stamped but there is no number, it is clear.  I have located the engine number and I am wondering if anyone knows where I might find a listing of engine numbers and if it will tell me what year the tractor was made.

Look just below the clutch inspection cover, some (earlier ones) were stamped there.

Yesterday evening I removed the clutch cover plate and did not find any number there.  Thanks for the Help, though.

Sorry, not underneath the plate, just below the plate, sort of where the casting changes from angled to flat.  To my knowledge there are no lists of engine numbers.  Pictures may help as there were part changes throughout production; also, if you post your engine serial, people could cross-reference with the ones they have.

Monday, I bought SN 5649, a 1937 I believe.  Got it from the 88 year old son of the original owner.  Unfortunately, the exhaust has been open for years, and it's been sitting outside.  It is complete and hopefully the engine isn't real bad.  The SN was just to the right and a bit back from the clutch inspection cover.  There is a grease zerk near it, don't know what for yet.

That grease zerk is for the clutch release bearing (over centre clutch) when running in neutral do not leave clutch lever forwards as you will wear clutch release out very fast ,always pull it back when idle so it is engaged should feel it snap over when you pull it back.
