    Posted: 11 Dec 2009 at 11:15am
Just tried to install new felt type grease seals in my C but was unable to get them in the hubs.  I did get them in my CA a year ago but they turn in the spindle rather than the hub.  I have found a lip seal that fits and am wondering if they will work? Sure would be easier to install.

While I'm at it, anyone know why they used the abominable felt seal in the first place?

Barry, I just had the same problem with my C, had to send the seals back. The aftermarket seals are pressed together to far pushing the felt up and makes them to large to go in the hub. I called Sandy Lake Imp. and they sent me orginals and they worked fine. The only problem is the price.

i bought regular rubber lip oil seals and installed on several B tractors. All it does is keep the grease inside.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Those felt seals are a pain in the rear.  I finally used Locktite on em in the B.  The Agco seals were about the same.  Lube the felt real good also.

Now I see why I had problems, aftermarket parts!  Anyway, I installed CR 15142 lip seals.  They are 1.5" ID, 2.5" OD x 3/8" thick.  I had to recess them 1.4" into the hub to make sure the lip ran on the smooth spindle surface.  Sure did go in easily although I Locktited them to make sure they stayed.

I cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings on my D-12 Ser. III last summer.
Used the same seal   CR 15142  from NAPA.
