As I recall, the cylinder is just supposed to pull apart or is there some ring or something there. Mine seems awfully tight.
I want to put the kit in it (which I have) now that is apart for seals and bushings.

Only thing that should be in there is the seal assy. Tight might be a good sign, might wasn't, had a lot of wear grooves in it. Machine shop polished it as much as they dared and even with that and new seals it will leak by a little if I am using it hard. Hopefully you are replacing the hose as well. I did those as well as bearings/seals on the PTO shaft, hoping not to be in it for a long time.
