I have been going through my allis chalmers c and have posted a few times with questions. So to follow the same path I have a few more questions. Thought I was going to be finished today but doesn't seem so. I got this tractor in mid October after it had sat for six years. I got the tractor started by pull starting it (no battery). After a 20 minute pull it finaly started and seemed to be running prety good so I deceide to drive it the six miles home. After a 1/2 mile it started sputtering and then quite after 1 mile. From there it was trailered home. Once home I cleaned the fuel tank and installed fuel filter/ new plugs /cleaned carburetor. Also found radiator leaked so got that repaired. Deceided to keep it 6 volt so bought a new battery. Installed battery and found out the gear ring was shot. Then relaced the points and condenser in the mag. Pull started and still ran bad. Pulled mag and found broken parts. Bought good used mag and installed. Deceide to split in 1/2 (never done before) and replace ring gear. Changed the throw out bearing while apart. Put back together and deceide to strip down and blast everything. Blasted all parts in cabinet then blasted entire frame. Painted parts then frame and put back together. Installed new plug wires and decals and after a couple of tries the tractor fired up and is running beautiful. Jumped on to test drive and could not shift into gear. All it did was grind. Tried to adjust clutch and could not get it to work. So one more question! Does anyone have any ideas. I dont have a clue. I must of done something wrong when I had split but I have no idea. I can't think of anything that I did wrong. While blasting, could sand have gotten in clutch and done something? Do not have inspection cover for clutch. Did stuff rag into hole and sealed good. Blew out when done and got a little sand but not much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Vance

Could have put clutch disc in backwards. This could bind it so the disc won't slip when the pressure plate is released.

The clutch stuck in my B last spring. Rust I presume, I used the clutch lock to load the pressure plate up and left it for a day. When I came back clutch had released.
Good Luck

clutch stuck due to oil on the plates. there is a small drip on the pilot bearing and that oil gets on the clutch. put it in gear , push in clutch and crank.. may start and begin moving.. keep clutch pushed in and see if it lets go. if not, connect to a disc or plow, put in gear and start again, a good load will make it break free.. when it lets go, push clutch in and clamp. remove starter motor, spray dishwasher soap and water into the hole all over clutch, with a weed sprayer. soak it good and hose out with gardern hose. should be lo.k. for another 50 years.

I had the clutch on my C rust up - had the same symptom described above. I put it in reverse with clutch locked in, put spouse on board to steer, and towed it with another tractor. Came free in about 6 feet. Not sure this is an approved approach - could damage something if rusted clutch wasn't the problem - but it worked.
