well now i have my first continental powered tractors, I was wondering if anyone had both of these engines, How do they compare? My UM engined U's start and run really easy. Both of mine are crank start only, but it has never been an issue. I have to do a rebuild on the 31 UC engine. I am hopeful that it is as easy tto fire up as the UM engine. I have another U on the way also with the electric start. Somewhat of a basketcase, but I try to save every U and UC I can. I will get some pics posted of these projects soon. Thanks in advance for any input

I have some of both. Mine are all U's, no UC's. I think the UM's do start a little easier and run a bit smoother. As to power, I don't know personally as I have never taken any of mine to the field. But, My Grandfather had a 1930 U that was originally a Continental. During WW2 he had a brand new UM engine installed in it. My Dad told me that the UM engine "made a tractor out of it". Where in Illinois are you located? I'm in West Central, near Canton. Good to see someone else in Illinois who likes the older AC's!

Doug i'm in east central illinois, near the effingham area. I am looking for an A currently to go along with our 25-40 . good to hear from you. I assume i will learn a lot about the cont. engine, I could'nt be happier with the UM engines, they are amazingly reliable. thanks for your input
