I have a noise coming from the hydraulic pump on my 56 CA. When the PTO is not engaged I hear a rattling sound or maybe gears not fulling engaging. When the PTO is engaged I cannot hear the noise. Every thing operates as it should, just the noise. I did not have the noise before I had the transmission swapped out. Could it be from the pump if it is not properly installed or could the pump be going out? Thank you in advance.

Most any try in giving you an answer would have to be a pure guess. However I am willing to give two guesses which will only mean that until you pull the power take off unit off you are not going to know for sure.
I have seen the square part on the end of the shift lever that moves the gear to engage wear out which (might) let the gear stay close to the engagement point to clatter. I have never seen this happen but it looks like a pin on one of the pump pistons could wear out and let the piston float free. |

I would take a close look at the linkage and the square piece that Dick is talking about. If it didn't do it before the tranny was swapped out, something might just be a little out of kilter.

if you have the noise with the PTO disengaged, then the noise is not in the pump. The pump only runs when the PTO is ingaged.
I have the same thing with one of my B's. I have to remove the PTO any check the disengage block on the lever. Bob
