I'm looking at buying a 1984 8010 with the power director trans. The tractor seems to be solid with 2700 hours. One problem found was that the high/low selector on the steering column does not work (seems to be stuck in high range). When the selector arm is moved you can hear a slight nose (like a switch being made). Could this problem be electrical or something more serious in the trans, like the low or high range clucth. I don't have much experiance with these type of transmissions.

There is a solonoid under the trans. Check the wires going to it

The solonoid is on right side of trans, behind fuel tank. Check the kickdown switch under dash above clutch pedal. MACK
