The cork valve cover gasket in the latest Victor Reinz complete kits have been too long to fit the valve cover properly. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it? Cutting a short section out of the long sides and butting the ends together looks to be the only way to use what you get. If you trim some off both ends to get the gasket to lay flat, the gasket gets sorta narrow at the ends.

Put a scarf joint in the two long sides and glue with Cat gasket cement? I have found that the FelPro rubber gasket is better, and I believe that is what AGCO sells now.

I don't remember having that trouble with the one I put on my B last winter, and it came from Sandy Lake Imp. My C has the cork Victor on it, and I seem to remember that it was a bit big, but it's been two years since I put it on and all is still well with it after probably 60-70 hours.

I had the same problem with mine. I trimmed about half the width off of both ends. The scarf joint would have been a better idea. Last summer I used the gasket maker that comes in the black can that looks like easy cheese. It was really hard to break loose to take the cover off, but it didn't leak. You just don't want to crank the cover down tight until after it sets up because of the lip on the bottom of the cover.
