Was wondering how common were the adjustable wide fronts on the C's? A friend has a tractor he was wanting to sell that had one but it is the first one I have ever seen with one. I guess I should ask as well how much one might raise the value of the tractor? any info appreciated.

Junkman, They made somewhere in the neighborhood of 84,000 C tractors with just over 5000 wide fronts, which makes it not all that common. I feel that a C with a wide front gives it some collector value as opposed to not many folks wanting one. Just make sure that it is a real C widefront and not a CA wide front or worse yet a B widefront. There is a deffinite difference in a C wf as opposed to a CA wf. HTH

Out of about 84,000 C's there were 5,149 with adjustable wide fronts which makes them fairly hard to find. According to the book they were only offered 1947-1950. I've seen many C's with B arched fronts on them also which just isn't the same.

The Ca grille has 2 heavy round post sticking through the grille near the bottom to mount the cultivators onto. The C grille is smooth. Actual wide front is the same, just the front bolster. Bob

googled a pic of a ca and I see what you mean. the C I was looking at doesn't have those so it must be a C. Thanks for the info.

the front itself is also different the main one is the support gusset that is welded to the axle and to the rear support is smaller on a c than on a ca and it is welded in a little different location as the ca has a bend in the larger dia round stock gusset,

The pin located in the front looked to be the same size as a B. does this sound right for a C? any thoughts on added value?

not the pin the part I am talking about is the piece of round stock that acts as a gusset and is welded to the adj front tube between the pin and the knee or spindle piece on a c it should be (Dont quote me) 7/8 or a little smaller and a ca is 1-1/4 or bigger, the c also has the round stock gusset welded @ a 45 degree angle flat on top of the tube while the ca's round stock gusset has the 45 bend in it and is welded @ a 90 with the front tube and will have a flat strap gusset welded to the round stock and the front tube, A little confusing when I typed it out but you could call me and I may be able to explain it a little better, 573-592-9205, Dustin

In looking at a C verses a CA Widefront the braces come out much wider than on the CA and the pieces are not flattened where they are welded on. Also the horseshoe going back is not bent down like a CA is. I had just the front from a C on my auction that went for $400.00, so I guess they are worth more in that respect. Also the knees are different on the C also, they don't have any stop collars on the bottom like the CA does. The best is to take a picture and post it then you will know for sure.

Out our way the wide front C is the common variation. Hardly ever see the "common" tricycle. We have had three Cs, two wide fronts, & one single front wheel. So I guess the tricycle is the rare one here!!

All Ca' s came with PAW's. 39,499 tractors, 21,410 tricycle, 17,439 with wide AFA, and 460 single front. 190 cane tractors.

I would never have guessed there were that many WFEs made compared to NFE. I guess I just see way more narrows than wides so I assumed the wides were rather scarce.
