Hi guys,
I have a D19 that I just overhauled that doesn't get over 170F. I checked this with two temp gauges. I pulled the thermostat and it is a 160F unit
Should I put a hotter thermostat in? What temp should I use?
Thanks
Terry

My D19 diesel very rarely gets the temp gauge over 170 or in the green run zone. When i go plowing it the runs about 180 and cools off rather quickly. The only time that it was over 170 and i was driving it around and not working it was about 3 weeks ago when it was over a 100 in the shade. I have 180 degree thermostat in it. Matt |

I have a 180 thermostat in my D17D. That puts the needle on the gauge right about the middle of the green zone. I haven't had the chance to put any real load on it to know how it would react. It did have a 160 thermostat in it when I pulled it apart.

Thanks guys. I dropped in a 180F and now it runs a little to the left of mid-green. Just thought putting in a hotter thermostat may help the thing run cleaner.
