The first D21 Series II was produced May 19, 1965. Was following a thread on the red site discussing 1206 and D21. I see a few over there think the 1206 was the first ag tractor to be turboed. It may be the first over 100 HP turboed tractor if the first production 1206 was produced before May 19, 1965. The D19 was first produced in December 1961. Does anyone know what exact date the first production D19 diesel was built? BTW I have a soft spot for a 1206. Our neighbors have had one since I was a kid. They did snap the front axle off once.

I just looked in my 150 years of IHC and it states the 1206 was build from 1965 to 1967 Nebraska test # 910 the 1206 produced 112.64 PTO hp. And my neighbor had a 1206 that he snaped the front axle off too never saw it without 1,000 lbs of weight hanging on the front.

I got them thinking with that post didn't I ? The Nebraska test for the 1206 was from Sept. 8-23, 1965 and serial # 7502 was tested, I think (test report says # 502). 1206's started with # 7501. D21 series II were tested June 22-28, 1965. The test report says serial # 2109 was used but this has to be a misprint because Series II started at serial # 2201 (I would guess #2209 was tested).  Sure looks like the D21 Series II would be the first over 100 Horsepower turbocharged rowcrop farm tractor.

I made this list up of different historic dates in Farm tractors (From the original post on the red power forum Here: http://www.redpowermagazine.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65172):

1931- Caterpillar Diesel Sixty: First Diesel Farm Tractor, First Diesel Farm Tractor on tracks

1935- McCormick-Deering WD40: First Diesel farm tractor on wheels

1936- Caterpillar RD8: First farm tractor over 100 horsepower, First farm tractor on tracks over 100 horsepower (Test 257)

1959- John Deere 8010: First Farm Tractor on wheels over 100 Horsepower, First 4wd over 100 Horsepower

1961- Allis Chalmers D19 Diesel: First turbocharged Farm Tractor,First tractor tested at Nebraska with a turbo [ Nebraska test was not done until 1962 because of winter (Test 811) ], First Turbocharged 2wd, First Turbocharged row crop

1961- International 4300: First turbocharged 4wd, First turbocharged over 100 horsepower [Also tested in 1962 (Test 815) ]

1962- John Deere 5010: First 2wd over 100 horsepower

1963- Allis Chalmers D21 Series 1: (all Series 1 were non turbocharged) The D21 was introduced with 24.5-32 rear tires, At some point during the Series 1 production 18.4-38 rear tires were made a factory option ( an adjustable front axle was standard from what I can tell) making the D21 the first row crop over 100 horsepower

May 19, 1965- Allis Chalmers D21 Series 2 production begins at serial # 2201 (all Series 2 were turbocharged)

1965- International / Farmall 1206: First International turbocharged 2wd and row crop
