Local F&F has a good price on the mobil oil, can it used in all applications I have been using the rotella in? What is peoples experience or opinions? It helps when a person can save a couple bucks a gallon when you have some toys. |

They're both very good oils. Here's a link to a data sheet for the Delvac oil:
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/NAUSENCVLMOMobil_Delvac_1300_Super.asp Note that it is also rated for spark engine use SM and SL which is fine for all the Allis gas engines. |

I use Chevron DELO 400 in my Ford 7.3 diesel, have been using straight weight Rotella in the 180 since I bought it but have considered going to DELO 300 straight weight for it as it is more prevalent here.

Most of those oils from major suppliers that are rated for the Heavy Diesel Service are good oils with no problems. Use to be the area of supply was limited and you did not find much shell West of the river or Citgo (Cities Service ) in but Eastern US, Dello, Texico Ersa, and others that were rated truck and bus oils were always good oils .

If the 180 book were being written today, it would say 15w-40 also. It's a better oil than a straight weight 30, but wasn't readily available back then. |

i agree 427....but will continue with the 30 weight in it! the 30 weight is (i think) the best for small engines!

I use Delvac 10-30 year-round in my powerstroke , kubota and D17 puller, Cold starts are much easier. Rarely see temps over 90 here, many nights below zero.

The first fill on my D17D overhaul is Motorcraft 10-30 Super Duty. I'll bet it is Mobil Delvac. The oil supplier told me that Motorcraft oil is supplied by Mobil. Guess I don't know for sure. I figure if it's good enough to live in a new Powerstroke, it should be fine for the old 262. The owner's manual says use straight 20 from aboout 30 degrees up to 90. Use 30w above 90.

I put rotella 15w 40 in my 8070 with a new engine, used a lot of oil, local dealer mechanic told me to change oil to case ih 15w 40 for a while, called the ih oil DRIER and would help oil usage, well he was rite, oil useage droped. Guess i will use case ih oil from now on, but everybody has a different opinion.

I've never heard of "drier" oil before. I suspect that the rings took a while to break-in and that was the solution to your problem---not the different oil. |

427, being an ex Shell Oil dealer and having gone through some training on oils, it never ceases to amaze me what superstitions abound cocerning oils! With the exception of Quaker State, which many say is the ONLY good oli, almost any oil will do a very good job. The problem I have with Quaker State stems from my years as a dealer. With full service gas, it was common practice to check oil along with washing windows. Invariably the Quaker State users were resistant to haveing there oil checked, and when you had a guy that did want it checked and you pulled the dipstick, Whewieee! the stench that came out of the crankcase was horrible! It smelled like the oil hadn't been changed for thousands of miles. And the few engines that I did pull apart looked like that was the case from the sludge buildup. However, in defense many, many thousands of vehicles lasted years problem free.. Just Not one of mine though!!! I've used Shell, Havoline, Kendall, Delo, Sinclair, Cenpeco, Farm Bureau(whichever name used that day and in your area) and Pennzoil without problems. I would rather use a quart each of different oils in a fill than go a quart low.
