P&H electric monorail hoist carrying a piece of equipment at the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co. There's an operator in the cab, as well as two other men on the floor level.

I don't know, riding that monorail could be kind of stressful, at least at the start.

Yeah and I don't think those fedoras would qualify as hard hats.
In a factory today the operator would be on the floor and the lift would be controlled by one of those RC units.

Hello GBACBFAN Back in o5 when we were planning the GOTO I was fortunate to acquire 200' side rail and 2 22' sliding beams with trollies from the factory. Plan on sandblasting and paint then hang it in my barn.

That's pretty old. Looks like a DC powered system. They didn't even have hanging pendant control stations back then. Just had big drum switches to control the speed of the DC motors. That old stuff was tough though. I have worked on a Shaw crane that is in the power house at Tallulah falls hydro station. It was built in 1912, and they still use it today. 70 ton main hoist with 10 ton auxilliary hook. Most of that stuff was taken out and replaced because they wanted to upgrade, not because it wore out.
Hard to believe that most cranes today have Variable frequency AC drives on them, and are controlled by radio control units with transmitters not much larger than the one for your TV set. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!
