I hope you all will forgive me.
Went to an auction in Gilcrest, Colo today.  No Allis' there but there was a Ford 6000.  For some reason I have always had a hankering to have one, well, now I do.  It's gas and runs good but the SOS is either low on oil or has a more serious problem.  Considering the amount of oil leaked under it,  I'm guessing low oil.  It's an early one as it was red under the blue paint and has a sticker below the dash "Factory re-manufactured by Ford Motor Company"  Must have been one of the early ones sold before the bugs were worked out and recalled.  At $800, it's the most I've paid for a tractor in 3 years.

I'll take pictures tomorrow.  Of course I drove the Toyota to the sale so I'll have to go back with the Freightliner to get it tomorrow.  Also bought an IHC 574 for a neighbor and a Miller 20,000lb tilt deck trailer.  Didn't want to find out the lights don't work on the trailer on the 45 mile drive home.  I'm sure one of the guys with light bars on top of their car would inform me if they don't work.lol

John, there were a few guys talking about 6000's on YT. Someone was talking about a hub or something that was prone to breaking in them. I'd kind of like to find a SOS Ford to add to my collection too. From what little I've looked at the trans it looks to me like they used some of the same principles as an automatic trans.

I will not think less of you for buying it; but you will for getting it after it cost lots of green to get that red/ blue "comando" to stop leaking all over the shop. LOL
With that being said they are a cool looking old tractor! The true red ones are harder to find over the blue ones just painted red.
Have fun with her and post some pics of it.

My buddy had rented two Fords to applicate nitrogen on year, A 6000 and a 7000, the 6000 was used where the 7000 was a new tractor. I thought the 6 was a pretty good tractor, had quite a bit of power, and with the powershift tranny it woud walk right up through the gears to speed even in the hard ground. The 7 was alittle bigger horse and it worked well also. At the time my uncle and I had Case's. He with a 830 diesel, and me with a 730 gasser. The Fords were in the hp range of his 830, but a little bigger than my 730. Probably the biggest problem at the time for the 6000 was repair cost on the transmission, and I would guess that today would even more so. But, in it's day was the best powershift.

Miles, I spent it on diesel fuel to pick up the Ford (and IHC).  It was $3.70 a gallon today.
There are 3 planetaries in the transmission with two clutch packs and a brake band on each one.  Depending on which clutches and brakes are on gives you 10 speeds forward and 2 in reverse.  I used to run several SOS tractors and rebuilt one of mine and worked for a Ford tractor dealer and helped rebuild a few others.  They are kind of similar to a Model T transmission but with more parts.  The clutch pacs are usually what go out although sometimes the shafts for the planetary will break and cause big buck damage.  also the slip seals, kind of like piston rings will wear out and cause too much oil leakage and try to make the transmission run in two gears at once.  I think that may be the problem with this 6000.  Got it home but stalled it and ran down the battery trying to start it.  Serial # is 6R106-5-D and under that is 49000.  Can't find any info on 6000 serial numbers.  Anyone have more info?
