What is a good magazine to subscribe to for old tractors? Also is there a good book-manual out there to help step by step in rebuilding a tractor for a guy like me with limited knowledge on them and would prefer not to make to many mistakes. I have learned education is costly. I do have manuals for both my tractors. Thanks again for your help. Mike

Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

Antique Power is a good magazine. The best book-manual for fixing equipment is "The School of Hard Knocks" but that can be expensive also. Maybe find a local tractor club that has older members willing to share their experiences.

You are probably on the best site for help right now. After all, if they put up with me most any breed of pup is welcome!!!! But seriously, there are several good sources of info available in books, service manuals, texts available here and on Yesteryears Tractor and through the guys here and any old or experienced mechanics around. Check if a club is in your area,join, pay your dues, get involved, you will learn and have a heck-ova lot of fun!! Good luck and enjoy!

I get three "Old Allis News" "The Allis Connection" and "Antique Power". I enjoy all three. Original Manuals or copies are on various web sites, on this site, and e-bay. They would be helpful.
Don't forget to join a local club for the tractors you want to rebuild. The members will be more than helpful.

I would also loook into a parts manual to go along with your other manuals. The parts manual is nice for ordering they have every bolt on the tractor listed, and also you can see what the part is called. You dont look so dumb when you call for parts and say I need the round thing that moves the things in the frount. They say a stearing wheel you say ya thats it LOL. Eric

That is my problem! It is hard to ask for help when I don't know what I am asking about. I know it is easier to fix if you know what it does and how it works. I could just take them to someone but then I would just buy a new tractor. Now what fun would that be? Does anyone know if the LaCrosse WI area has a club? Thanks Again. Mike

MDM1, D-17 got it right. A parts manual for any tractor you restore or do serious work on is essential. As I put my G back together, the parts manual helps me to understand just where I took off that part four years ago. It tells you how everything fits with everything else. Even the "evil" Mr. Thinker in the Green Magazine (pardon my using forbidden language here) tells you that.
