    Posted: 05 Mar 2011 at 12:56am
I am going to replace the rear Hyd Rams O rings. The manual says to remove one of the two pins. The one at the forward facing end of the ram, before unbolting the rear hyd arms assembly.Someone please help me to understand and see just where that pin is,and what it looks like ?? Theres a picture of it in the parts manual, but to my eyes, it could be on the inside as well as on the outside of the housing, especially when I can't find it,LOL...Thanks eb

I always leave both pins installed and pull the ram rod out of the barrel. You have to unthread the coupler port from the rubber hose (you are going to install a new hose, right??) and just leave the barrel inside the rearend .....install your new seals and grease them well and reassemble.

Yes,but right now its just a plain D14 with the seat removed, and trans and power directer oil draining out.Next I will take lines loose from rear hyd coupler, and then pull pto shaft.I'll try to post pictures from that point.

More questions will be forth coming as well, LOL.I hate to post pictures of me and my whole family walking around looking for springs and only the Lord knows what else that flew out, when I took the wrong thing loose, or the right thing, but at the wrong time, ifya know what I mean, lol. Thanks for the help so far folks...... eb

Its actually not that bad of job. If you want to pull the pin, clean all the grease off around the belly of the tractor and look for the head of the pin.  It should be flush with the rest of the tractor and may be hard to spot.  Then you can use a punch and knock it in.  I did it on a D15 II by myself a little while ago and didnt have any major problems.  That rear assembly is awfully heavy though, so have a lift or a buddy handy, or watch your toes!  I replaced the seals in the lift and the hose that goes from the hyd coupler to the ram on the inside just to be sure I fixed all problems while I was in there.  Total cost was somewhere around $50-60 if I remember right.  Good luck!

Thanks.Yes I just found the pin hidden by grease and brake pedal linkage.I wish I had known about the rubber hose and ordered it when I ordered the O rings and gaskets.I'll get it next week.Anybody know of anything else that I might need, not counting any unforeseen surprises?
This D14 had one of the best hydraulics I have ever seen on a tractor. It still would lift that heavy disk harrow without hesitation, but would let it creep down pretty fast over filling the transmission with twenty wt oil.If it was going back into the hyd,I would drive it a good while longer. eb
