I am going to hike back up the mountain to look over my new purchase again this morning...how do I tell if it has the flip PTO for both speeds or just 540?

Look at the PTO shaft. If it has more than three bolts around the seal housing it is the 540/1000 set up. If there are only three bolts then it's either just a 540 or just 1000. Does it have the manual PTO engagement or the hydraulic engagement? The hydraulic PTO would have the lever on the side (of) the right hand console a little lower than your seat.

Yes Captain, it has the 540/1000 PTO option. It's getting to be a better deal all the time. Let's see a picture of the 3 point hitch.

Captain, you've found the tractor I've been looking for! To change er over to 1000 PTO, remove the 4 bolts, pull the shaft out and you should find a 1000 RPM shaft stuck into the tractor houseing on the other end of the 540 Side. Flip it around so the  540 side is in and the 1000  side out, and put the bolts back in, only on the inner bolt holes this time. DO NOT HAVE SOME BOLTS IN THE INNER HOLES AND SOME ON THE OUTER HOLES!!!!!!! I've heard of someone doing this, and its not a pretty sight. In a nutshell, for 1000 RPM-all bolts in inner circle, for 540-all bolts in outer circle. It's pretty straight forward once you see how it works.  Darrel
