I think you'll find that the "bible" is the book entitled  "ALLIS-CHALMERS Farm Equipment 1914-1985" by Norm Swinford. It is the best and most accurate reference book an Allis owner/restorer can have. The Owner's Manual, Repair Manual and Parts Manual originally published by Allis-Chalmers for your individual tractor and available from this site's owner, Darin Stratton, are a must if you intend to really "tear into" your tractor.

I agree that Swinfords 1914-1985 and Wendels Allis Chalmers Story are great but I like Deans Allis Data book for carrying with me.

An Industrial Heritage, it is a little blue book packed with loads of info.  Not sure on the authors name, but he was a professor or dean at Iowa state university I believe.

Hello Friends,  I know this thread is a few years old, but can someone with one of these publications tell me the date of manufacture based on serial# for the model HD6G crawler loader.  I'm looking to purchase one soon and would like to be 100% sure of the year when I go see it.  Thanks in advance,  Steve

This book is a great history of the company and everything it had gone through into the 1970s.  It does not give any details about the tractors they manufactured.  A good read nevertheless if you can find it.

Very true, its a great read,, tells of the trips to Saudis Aribia and buying into Jimmy Carter's administration with the hand shake of Kiln N Gas,,,, and that went way south!
