Did the 39 B have shutters on the radiator? Mine has a hole in the grill sheet metal for the crank to open and close but no shutters. Don't know if the metal is original. Tim

Mine doesn't... but I don't think that means they didn't. Typically, shutters would be associated with an engine that would start on gasoline and run on distillate fuel... close the shutters to get engine temperature up, then switch to distillate... on a cool day, the engine would stay plenty hot, so the distillate would burn properly...

The early B had either the canvas( 37) or the shutters. They were used on both gas and kero tractor, The B didn't have a thermostat, and the engine ran better when the temp was increased, so they used shutters. My 40 B ( straight gas) had the shutters on when I got it. I haven't put them back on yet. I need a good crank, or I should take the time to remove the broken threaded rod inside the crank.

My 1951 CA has the original shutters and has a thermostat. Gas engine only.

I think I'll weld a piece in the hole and finish up with body filler and not have shutters. A working set might be hard to find. Tim

Shutters were also an Option. Not always on every tractor. At least thats what I was told.
Bill Long, are you around?

No shutters on my B although the shroud has a hole for them. No sign they were ever there.
