Im thinking an allis chalmers ca is the tractor i want. But i have a couple questions.
1. What are all the snapcoupler implements allis made for the ca?
2. Are implements easy to find?
3.What are the prices of the implements?
4.What dose a 3point conversion cost?
5.What are some things to look for when buying?
Those are the questions I can think of right now.
Also Do any of you know of any CA's with a wide front end and maby 3point for sale near swanton ohio? Edited by R.W - 12 Feb 2011 at 7:22pm |

The first 2 years of production, the CA didn't have a Snap Coupler hitch. Look for the hand clutch and check that it works. Go through the gears accelerating and decelerating to check for popping out of gear. Look for excessive slop in the steering. Make sure the rear rims are in decent usable condition.

Like Charlie says the first few years didn't have snap coupler from the factory, but that doesn't mean they weren't retrofitted. My 51 CA was retrofitted. Plows are probably going to be the easiest snap coupler implement to find. Pretty much any implement you can think of was produced in snap coupler and a size the CA can handle.

In areas where Allis Chalmers tractors were popular, implements are fairly easy to find. However things sized for the CA may not be. In many areas B and C tractors were the ones popular and they mostly were not snap coupler. In other areas WD and WD45 were the popular tractors and the implements for them are a little big for the CA. Snap coupler equipment is usually not too expensive. As with most things, cost depends on condition and availability. 3 point conversion costs around $300. Normally I'd say that snap coupler equipment is at least equal, if not better than 3 point equipment. For a CA however, I think you will find a lot more 3 point stuff sized for the tractor. So I think you will need the adapter and the ability to switch between the two types of hitches.

What Charlie said, steering, clutch and rims. Something else I would check is the dipstick. Make sure the oil has been kept up with and not let sit for the last 10 years. My throttle tends to jump back when its up so I'm not sure if that is a wear issue or an adjustment but just something else to check. It's annoying going down the road and it goes from full to idle. Bought throws me into the steering wheel.

These tractors have been around for 60 years and can be found in a variety of conditions. Clutches (foot and hand), electrical system, steering gear boxes, brakes, rims, and/or tranny issues are not that uncommon (although they are fixable). Best to plan on pulling the finals, installing new pinion seals (and maybe new brakes and rebuild the hand clutch) as these seals do wear out, and changing the lube in the final pans. |

R.W. just about all the Snap-Coupler equipment made for the D-12,D-14, WD & WD-45's will work on the "CA". Your limits are going to be hp and traction. My "CA" puts out only 2hp over factory and it pulls a 9' mounted disc in 3rd and a 3-14 plow in 2nd. Allis sold the "CA" to be the main tractor on a 150 acre farm. What are your needs?

My Father in-law has a Nice CA, he just mentioned the other day that he thought he would sell it. I think it's a 1956. It looks like we are about 4 hours east of you in N.W. Pa. so I don't know if that is too far for you or not.

So than you are looking for a tractor, plow, disc, drag, vegetable planter & cultivator. All should be easily found for the "CA" in both pin or Snap-Coupler hitches. You can get the planter units new from Cole and attach them to the rear tool bar of the cuiltivator and plant about 6-7 rows at a time.

If you're looking for something that's about an hour away, you shouldn't be too picky. Go with whatever small tractor is around and for sale.

Not sure how far this one is from you. Has a loader and a 3pt conversion. Not sure if the scraper box comes with it, also says live hydraulic pump driven off of crankshaft.
