I was thinking up grading to a newer tractor. I have been looking at the AGCOs & Masseys. I have demoed a Deere 3520 and it was a fun little tractor but I'm thinking maybe little bit biger would be better. So do you think of the AGCO & Massey tractors?

With the lack of replys I'd say there must not be to many small AGCO or Massey tractors . Are AGCO dealer don't have any. They tell me how good they are but yet where are they? The dealer also sells Kubota, I wonder why AGCO would let an AGCO dealer sell a competiters product.

I would think the resale on the Agco would stink.

Dave I to thought they discontiued them. When I was asking about the massey line with our dealer he pointed out you can still get them. This is the last year with a limited run, when the parts run out on the line thats it. No special orders you must buy them as they are.

MF compacts are very good we have sold them for 15+ years with very little issues. MF is in the process of updating several of the models so many are limited supply BUT there is also a new model that replaces them.

You like Allis tractors and your thinking of getting an MF or AGCO compact? The current CEO of AGCO killed the "Allis Gleaner Company" and made it "Your AG Company." Then he proceeded to kill the orange line.
On a strictly tractor note I bought an AGCO ST, (smallest one), for mowing my yard and I love it. I bought it right after I got the email from an AGCO exec that they were not dropping the orange and two months after I got it they announced they were. Anyway, it's a good tractor. They are all (MF and AGCO), I believe, made by ISEKI. There is very little difference between it and the Kubota model of the same size. Both are made in Japan. I got a good deal on the AGCO and when I bought it they were still supposed to be making orange. If I had to do it again I would get something different just because I hate be lied to, in general, and I especially hate it when AGCO lies to me and then kills something I hold dear. If you want to look in other areas LS tractor is selling there own line in the US now. They make compacts for New Holland and I believe McCormick and they used to make them for Montana too. They are made in Korea with Mitsubishi engines in the smaller ones. Kubota you know about. Kioti is orange and a good Korean brand too and if you buy a Bobcat compact it's made by Kioti too. John Deere used to assemble some of their compact models in the US but am unsure if they do yet or not. Dealer support is usually a big deal but most of these compacts are of good quality and have very little issues. Personally I'd stay away from all the Chinese brands. Right now I'd either get the Kubota or LS depending on price/features and dealer. I've not looked closely at the LS compacts but if they did make the McCormick I like those. It seemed like a well thought out design with some nice extras. |

Have sold a few of the 1643 and they are very nice tractors. Big open platforms and controls are easy to get to.

What HP are you looking for?
I have always thought that it made more sense to buy a used farm tractor instead of a new compact. You will probably pay less and definately get more tractor.
You could get something of about 50-60 hp for not a lot of money.
AC 6060
Ford 3910
MF 375
JD 2355
Any one would be a good unit.

After reading the comments, I got to wondering about Montana tractors as I haven't seen any ads for them lately. The most currant info on them was dated in 2009. They seemed like pretty good tractors, built in Korea, maybe the same as the outfit that now owns Bobcat. They also had some bigger tractors that look like Ford (New Holland), made in India, I think. One of the co owners last name is Hunt and there is reference to J.B. Hunt trucking. Maybe they got bought out by the Bobcat parent company.

Kubota, dad has a B20 that has been an excellent piece of equipment. They build their bigger stuff like that we would consider a M series for the farm.

I have a 185 Allis, 6060 Allis, Model K gleaner, SMTA ferg 35, ferg 20 (paps first tractor, Allis B (wife's)John Deere 240 skid loader and a bunch of the usual farm stuff.

Dennis, I've sold the Masseys for 11 years. The Masseys are very reliable and we have never had to take a motor or transmission apart on any of the models. The only thing we've had to do is replace the quick couplers on the GC2300's because of the o rings. If you get a 1600 series (non Hydro) go for the 12 spd Power Shuttle, they have a great gear range.
They did discontinue the ST series but there are some out there yet, just have to look for them harder.

Go to Tractorhouse.com and select AGCO and then look at all the ST models for sale. There was one brand new with financing still in a dealer's showroom, as of last week. I saw one in Jefferson City, MO Saturday afternoon blading snow and it looked real sharp.

I've also been selling the Massey and before they quit making them the AGCO compacts. And I own an ST45 and the Massey zero turn 29 horse diesel mower and they are nice equipment. I can understand the sentiment on AGCO since I'm an ALLIS nut also. But I'm glad I bought the ST and would do it again. Iseki built machines have an excellent fit and finish and are every bit the nice tractors. But service and warranty mean alot these days and as others have said, stay away from the chinese imports, buy from a local dealer to get taken care of ,and they're all nice machines.

I wondered who made Branson. A neighbor repairs tractors and had a tractor in the shop from China, think it was a Pro something, sold by Northern Hydralics. Had a real nice heavy built loader but the transmission was junk. The main shaft had broken and some of the gears were so soft they were worn down. The owner lives near the mountains and bragged about how big a rock he had moved with it but still, there are 8N fords around there that have been doing the same job for 60 years and still do the job.

I would recommend looking at the 3600 series Massey. For the same $ or not much more, you would be getting a lot more substantial tractor.
I would not bother looking at some Wang Chung Bang tractor company like some on here are recommending. Massey is a good name and will be sold by a dealer that can service them. Unlike aforementioned tractors that are usually sold at a hardware store or out of a strip mall. (Kubota would be an exception to this)
While 100% of us agree that dropping the Orange was a bad decision, a very vocal group are so angry that they are trying to discourage anybody from dealing with Agco/Massey.
