In making a gasket for the WD-45D 230 diesel engine, the Agco parts book shows 2 different numbers for same item, Timing cover has 2 different numbers, does anyone know if this engine went thru minor design changes to various pieces? The picture in book of gasket I'm making actually shows 1 hole "opposite" of my cover/gasket. I know i can caulk that up to printer error, but double part numbers has me thinking.

It might be like the 262 in that there is a metal plate that is the front engine mounts that's sandwiched between the timing cover. Just put a 262 together and that's what they have, 230 might be similar.

On the 262, the gaskets are not the same so you need one of each. Is there a good picture? I'll bet that's whats going on. One number to seal the plate to the block and front of the oil pan. The other one to seal the cover to the plate. |

Brian is spot on about the two gaskets one in front of the plate to cover and one behind the plate to block.
