Ok, i cant remember how to do the pictures. Used to use dropbox, but cant remember how.
Anyway, i found myself a fairly clean, mostly complete 1949 AC model G. Has hydraulic lift front and rear. Has headlight still in place. Came with a full set of AC cultivators. Also came with what i believe to be an Athens brand disc plow, and a Bush hog brand belly mower. Ive just started tinkering with it, and the starter is going to need some help. Looks like it may have been hit with 12 volts a few times. Im still not sure, but the battery that came in it "looks" like a 12 volt. Has 6 water holes. Tractor has also jad a Ford 12 volt coil installed, but still has tje 6 volt Delco remy gemerator and some questionable wiring. Still has tje cutout and 2 position charge selector switch that seem to still ne doing thimgs. Tje genny field lead has been spliced and grounded to the dash panel. Not sure whats up with that. Im going to check to see if my local guy is still in business doing starter/generator work to see if he can get brushes for tje starter, clean up the commutator, and see if starter/generator are burned up. Generator field winding ohms out at around 3 ohms, so? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Apparently they converted to 12 volts and instead of doing a proper conversion they just full-fielded the generator to force it to charge the 12 volt battery.
3 Ohms is right in the ballpark

Thanks for that! Sounds like they just did a budget 12 volt conversion.
Im not sure what the right way forward is on that. I know the starter will handle 12 volts, as long as its not spun over for long periods of time. My C jas only had a 12 volt battery as long as ibe had, and it does fine. I cut the genny leads and jist charge the battery if i need to. It has a mag, so no need to give power to ignition. I just dont want to burn up that generator if its still good, and i need a way to power the ignition on the G, since it has a distributer. What about going to an 8 volt battery? Maybe a little more "kick". Manual says the system is good for 6 to 8 volts. |

I really just need to get the starter rehabbed and then see what kind of shape the engine/trams/hydraulics are in before i get too deep.
Gas tank looks like new on the inside BTW, as does the radiator, so small wins there. |
