What's the best way to repair the air cleaner cups that are retained by a bail (like on the WD and WD-45)?

I have two that have pin holes in them from water. I cleaned them up well and was going to JB Weld them, but I got to thinking that my not hold up well with the bail pulling up on the bottom of the cup and putting pressure on the cup. Then repeat (untension/retension) every time you want to change the oil. I wouldn't think twice about it for a B/C/CA clamp style air cleaner cup that doesn't have any stress on it.

Solder? Braze? Or am I overthinking it and JB weld is just fine?

I’d think that if you could get the JB Weld to squeeze out the pin holes that it would hold…
Otherwise you could put some silicone/ gasket maker in them..

Oil resistant RTV silicone on the inside AFTER cleaning the cup well with brake Kleen. Let cure for a couple of days before using.

I'd braze it, but then I like to braze. I wouldn't think it would be hard to find a good used one? Pretty sure I've got a few out in the parts vault and Lon probably has 20-30, if he can find them after the move.

Pretty sure as I think about things there is a WD style cleaner that the main body is damaged but the cup is fine out there. I'd give you the cup, when do you need it? Could bring it to Hutch or possibly ship it?

I have never brazed anything in my life, but I need to learn. I also need this tractor running so I'll probably just silicone the cup for now and carry on until I have more time. Way overkill, but I did pick up an oxyactyelene torch setup a couple weeks back, finally!

And thank you very much for the offer on the cup. Your comment prompted me to look at the parts book... For some reason I had in my head that the WD and WD45 air cleaners are different, which they are, but it looks like the cups are the same (however the baffles are different for some reason? Oil level, maybe?). I have a couple of stuck WDs that sure won't be needing their cups anytime soon. I had thought the air cleaners were actually different diameter but apparently not.

Only difference is the carb hose is larger on the 45 air cleaner body.
