Hello all,
Looking to get some help with my D10 series III. I just recently mounted the voltage regulator bracket and now have the voltage regulator on. I completed the wiring and ran a wire back to the negative post on the amp gauge. When I go to put the negative battery cable on the battery, the generator pulley starts moving and turning. Not sure why it is doing that. Any insight? |

when the generator starts to TURN, that means you have turned it into a MOTOR... That means it is wired wrong or something is STUCK inside the voltage regulaltor... should look like this ?? .......... Do you have a "L" terminal on your regulator ? If so it feeds the LIGHTS.. IF not, your lights are feed from the battery / ignition switch..
you probably still have a POS GROUND ?? ... but the wires on GEN and REG are the same for either.. Just the teminal on battery is different. Edited by steve(ill) - 14 Oct 2024 at 3:14pm |

Also, if you are changing from positive ground to negative, the wires on the coil need to be reversed and the generator "flashed", but that would have nothing to do with the generator turning. Some small engines use one electrical component as both a starter and a generator. You are somehow supplying constant power to the generator (through the voltage regulator). One of the regulator's jobs is to disconnect the generator from the rest of the electrical system when the generator is not producing electricity.

"F" is ground... so you are suppling 12v POWER thru the "G" wire of the regulator to the "A" terminal on the Generator.... The "G" should NOT BE HOT when off... Only the "B" ( and the "L" ) are HOT....... if you have a 4 terminal regulator, did you put the "G" wire on the "L" terminal by mistake ? .... the "G" is under the regulator on the BOTTOM... NOT Next to the F and B.
