Added another 7040 to the Allis collection this week. I picked it up from an auction in Iowa. I did a lot of work already. I fixed a cracked dash. I replaced range cable. I brazed hole in radiator. Its in nice shape but clutch has little to no resistance. I can push it to the floor with 2 fingers. It doesn't seem to be slipping. Trans brake works well. Its just too soft. Linkage all looks ok too. Not sure if I have a hydraulic problem or a worn out clutch. Any ideas?

You didn't say, but it is a Power Shift transmission and the clutch pedal return spring is broken inside the instrument panel area.

I don't see a gear shift lever or a transmission filter in the picture, so I'm going to assume that it's a power shift also. Usually, if the spring breaks, the pedal won't return upwards. I wonder if someone with a weak leg has replaced the original spring with a lot lighter one.

The pedal returns as it should and the spring is not broke. This is a power shift transmission.

So, if the inching pedal returns 100% fully, there is no problem. Power Shift transmission inching pedals push easy compared to a Power Director. I'll bet it had a broken spring at one time and what was used to replace it is probably a little weaker than OEM. Again, if the pedal comes 100% fully UP, there is not a problem. Carry on.

The power shift tractors don't use a clutch cable like the power director tractors. The cables can get stiff and stretch over time on those models. It is just a rod and mechanical linkage to move a spool in and out of a valve body, on a power shift. Neither model uses a dry clutch with a pressure plate, release fingers, or throw out bearing.

So I figured out my light clutch issue. Previous owner had a power Director spring instead of heavier spring and link installed. I have all the correct stuff on it now and the clutch feels good. I found the pin on the floor for the power shift linkage. I am assuming it was a mixup at the service counter years ago. Thanks again.
