after making some calls today it looks like their will not be any more 262d pistons and sleaves made,     so i am looking in to putting an engine out of a 180. i would like to see how well one would fit if someone has some pictures  because the lenght of the engine would be the biggest problem.            then move down the line to a 433,    or a 4bt  cummins  witch would probly be the best move because that one would have the best chance for parts in ten years.             really want to stick with a six cylinder

Does the class you plan on running have a CID limit? I've seen quite a few 301 in WD45D tractors and a few in D17s. I know of 2 that were de-cubed to 265 CID to meet class restrictions.
  Have you considered an A series Cummins?
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

research all the posts from Doc on this one - the big issue is the power steering - just not enough room.

You are willing to shoe-horn a gasoline G-2500/265 or some version of a 301 into a D-17 diesel chassis??  Your BEST plan would absolutely be to find a G-262 from a model C-2 or old "F" Gleaner combine and have it bolt right in !!!!!!!!!!! You'll have to deal with the governor, but power steering will work and you apparently don't care if it's a gasser or not. Anything other than a G-262 transplant should make you want to just buy a different tractor and save your time and money. This power steering thing (lack of) is a serious and expensive matter.

Look up a Timothy Fluegal video on u-tube. AC D-19 with 433 diesel engine Frankenstein. See what a job he did to make his power steering work and admire how it turned out.

are you talking about an ALLIS Kit ?  Jensales still lists a Reliance kit with pistons / rings/ sleeves.... and it says "available"... but i have not check them.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
