with a shuttle trans? It has a gas engine, 3pt, and 540/1000 PTO. Are they a 4 speed without a reverse gear?

Yes. Four forward and four reverse. I have a customer that has one and it's the only one. They are pretty rare in my opinion.

They must back up like a house afire in high gear. I saw one in a D17 once. What series, I don't remember. Were they put in any other tractors?

There is a 175 diesel with an AC loader and shuttle in my neighborhood. Has less than 1000 hrs. Very rare in my opinion.

While plowing at Albert City last weekend I talked to a gentleman on a 170 gas. Shuttle shift trans. Only reason I found out that little detail, "Power Director" handle, or in this case, shuttle shift handle was on the wrong side. Nice guy, nice tractor and a cute little semi-mount Red plow.

It would work good for a brush-cutter. I have an 826 Hydro that I have those same thought about. Problem, it doesn't move and I never seem to have time to get that resolved!

Well, I like Red tractors as well as Orange ones so it was pretty easy for me to drag it home. It wasn't supposed to sit this long! Life gets in the way it seems. If I can get it moving, it will be handy for a million things! I could see planting corn with it but the 185 handles that job quite nicely.

If I sounded critical forgive me I didnt mean to. Ive got tractors and such that need work that I havent gotten to yet. Yes if I found an IH hydro I thought could afford Id buy it. Those things are pricey

I've seen a couple of the shuttle shift 170's, but believe that they are very rare indeed. But what really caught my attention about the one you describe is the 540/1000 PTO. I don't think that I have ever seen a 170 with both PTO's. Thought that a 185 was about as far down as they went with dual PTO's.

On the subject of rare, happened to see this feature on one of the
tractors at Albert City. I could only chuckle of mixing the past with
the new for the times. See if you can find what I'm talking about. |

D10's and 12's had an option similar to the shuttle. Instead of the hi-low shift, it was f-r, but you have to stop motion, step on the clutch, and shift forward for F or rearward for R. It might be for sale, came off a state roads mowing tractor. Located in Gambrills, MD, PM me if you all have any interest...

I have a NF OneNinety with a belt pulley from new. OneEighty and OneNinety belt pulleys have a 4" longer casting than the D series belt pulley. D Series will bolt on for looks. To add a belt pulley and have it functional, the tractor must have the internal gear and shifter. Snowman did you also notice the snap coupler and propane? Must have been Charlies tractor.

THE 918 iNDUSTRIAL was based on the 190- had a torque converter and a hyd shuttle using the PD knob/lever. Almost had one bought decades ago and the deal fell through for some reason.

About like if you get a Deere tractor like a 4010/20 with slopped out shift linkage or the dash notched out to access the hidden 3rd reverse. That’ll get you out of the barn in a hurry! Edited by CrestonM - 21 Aug 2023 at 11:59pm |

Looks just like a dual PTO in a 185. The speeds aren't a normal standard speed on a shuttle clutch tractor.

Hope this helps! From Operator Manual 170 above 07500 I think the PTO speed is more constant with dual speed internal gearing. Edited by JoeO(CMO) - 22 Aug 2023 at 6:50pm |
