OK, this IS Allis related, well kinda. We are going to an auction in ILL this weekend and plan to stay in Arcola ILL. coming basicaly from Columbus Ohio. We wont be in a huge hurry but dont care to stop 958 times either. How is US 36 from Indy West to Illinois for driving? it's more or less a straght shot out. Or should we just take 74 or 70 to I-57? Thanks in advance.

I have travelled us 36 west out of Indy to central Ill. and its pretty much a straight shot with few stops. Great country to see, I would highly recommend it.

Ya ole Richard supprizes dont he? It dont make no never mind, anyone who didnt know about the auction doesnt search for such toys very hard, it has been advertised everywhere. We are not taking the H-D truck or the trailer as good luck charms, that way we will have to come back and get them. NEVER have I taken the trailer to a sale,, and needed it. LOL

Rats. I was informed I was not allowed to plan anything for this weekend as she had made reservations for a bed and breakfast in Lansing Ia. I'd like to get my hands on one of those old Lister diesels. I hear they are great for generator power. Cheap to operate too.

Normally 36 is a beautiful drive and would recommend it to anyone. The rockville area is very nice(pay attention to horse a buggies).
However if I were you I would avoid it like the plague this weekend. The covered bridge festival is going on this week/weekend and all of parke county(rockville is the county seat) is going to be a zoo. On road that you may see half a dozen cars you will crawl on do to the traffic. Now if your wife likes that kind of thing, I pitty you, please pity me as my wife is dragging me to parke county this weekend.
Brian, I assume your talking the CS listers? I have a CS 6-1 listeroid and it is pretty fun. Burn damn near anything, propane, engine oil, kerosene and a little diesel. The listeriods should be considered a kit as they are spotty on quality but parts are dirt cheap.

Brick, that's kind of what I've heard and seen on the smokstak. I've seen them running in videos. It looks like they would be a good choice for generator applications. Those big flywheels would probably help reduce voltage spikes by keeping the generator speed more stable than something like a Briggs & Stratton.

Butch, I drove that a couple years ago coming back from Dales. I didn't like it because of traffic. This is also part of IN that is hilly, and a big lake arund the area, with almost everyone towing a boat and then a buggy pops in front of you. It reminded me of driving around Loudonville/ Pleasant Hill in the summer if that helps you. I would run the big road if I go back out there

D17Jim and Firebrick are right. I live about half way between Indy and Rockville on US 36 and drive this frequently. Normally a scenic drive but is a 2-lane highway and this time of year is crowded with late season boaters and the Covered Bridge Festival which is a 2-week long affair, particularly on the weekends. This is the last weekend. If you go after this coming weekend you should be OK but otherwise, probably best to avoid if you want to make any time at all.

Good road if you don't care how long it takes.Two lane with lots of no passing zones.Get stuck behind the wrong person and you could be there for MILES! 74 is quicker.You might be ahead to take 70 to Terre Haute and head up past Dale's.Go on into Paris and straight ahead is 133 which goes right to Arcola.If you wanna go fast just take 74 to 57 south.
