My father had shareholder problems when we had to move from the family farm back in 82. He had a very good friend who had a little 40 acre spread. He let my father store his farm equipment there. After my father passed in 96 we auctioned off his equipment. His friend bought the allcrop 72 and kept it in a machine shed with a dirt floor. Over the years I have helped him and his family. Usually after a storm I help the clean up . After the last big storm he told me I could have my father's old combine for helping out. I told him that it was better protected where it is as I didn't have a shed for it . He told me I could keep it there as long as I wanted. Well he passed a few years ago and his wife can't keep up , so she sold the place and told me I have until spring to get the combine out .
Well today I spent the day cleaning and moving stuff just to get at it . The good news , header is supported up off the ground everything appears there and all shafts turn freely. Ball hitch , both parts are there. Not much coon crap. Straw walker ,fans and Cylinder all look good.
Bad news, hyd. Cylinder is missing. Trap doors rusted through. Tires Rotten and flat , rims rusty. Unloading Auger has a tear in it .reel is trashed and laying on top . Sickle appears stuck . Big pulley on back bent . Control arms , rods are bent by hitch.
Jacked it up and up on blocks, got tires off and checked bearings. Need 2 new rims and tires 7.5×16 and a 6.50×16 and I should be ready to drag it home. Plan on taking my D-15 series II and driving it home. About 15 miles. My neighbor wants me to get it running to harvest about 5 to 7 acres of soybeans or wheat . Soybean screen is in it now . Will have to look around for the others. Sorry no pics but I will get some shortly. Oh and sorry for the long post

That pulley gets bent a lot! LOL Be sure to operate by hand or something to make sure raddle chain under walker is not locked up with critter nests,poop etc. I wrecked one on dad's old 90 because I didn't use due dillegence. They aren't very robust!

Drove it home today . 17 miles no problems. It is wide. Went the backroads and sometimes it was mailbox to mailbox.

Put new tires on it, made sure hubs had grease. D-15 SII did a great job . Pulled a little hard up some steep hills. My friend Tom followed me with the flashers on .17 miles. Took about an 1 hour and 15 minutes . Feel bad in that it has always been under cover and now it is not. A good tarp for now and a building of some sort in the near future.

Glad to hear you got your Dads Combine back Pat. Even though it has some rust through and some issues, you'll get it back up in shape fir' sure! Great pic hitched to the D15! Glad you had an uneventful trip home with it. Sounds like Lon can fix ya up with what you may need. That's a good start to get that ole' girl whipped back into shape! Steve@B&B

Pat, that looks like it is in pretty good shape from here. seen several
go down the road in a truck box headed for the scrappers yard ... and
were in better shape than my 60 and 66 combines. I went to look for my dads first 60 combine with the bagger platform that I had spent many an hours of playing on, and setting sacks on back in my pre-teen years, but sadly it had been scrapped back in the 90's.

Any time you can a machine that has a family connection it always has a special meaning. Doesn't have to be a tractor or an implement. I have a wooden tool box in my shop the i remember my grandfather had. Still has the leather strap that served as a handle. If you gave to store that combine outside for a while , make sure all the elevator doors are open so water and mouse poop doesn't coolect at the bottom

Couldn't agree more with dr.p.
My family keepsake is the allis chalmers chain saw that I inherited from my grandfather. He bought it brand new in about 1974, plus or minus a year. Still runs, and I still use it occasionally.
Very happy for you Pat, that you have acquired your dad's all crop.

The combine will survive outside as long as the small round door is open by the serial number and the tank and elevator doors are open. No damage when water gets out. A good idea to check that often due to leaves and shelter seekers moving in. The 72 is a great machine.

Hey everyone, I've been browsing through Father's Day baskets looking for a Father's Day gift. And I was impressed by the variety of options available here fathers day hampers.
