Could have it installed on my used Honda mini van by a VW dealer couple yrs ago. I mean the wife's mini van. Safety, but I did not buy it, literally. Can you imagine the sensory overload if all cars have it at night, in rain,6 lanes traffic??

BIG Concern with Pulsing Red Lamps is anyone not yet diagnosed but borderline Epileptic can fixate and drive into the flashing light. Learned that while in Fire School several years ago. Fire apparatus has changed to alternating flash signals and colors, breaks that effect in the epileptic brain.

Possibly part of the ABS (AllBrakesSuck) system. A few years back one of the drivers at company I was driving for rear ended a Dumbbitch from Jersey that came to a complete stop on a 4 lane at a flashing yellow where there was a cross road. Driver had a dashcam and the BMWs brake lights flashed many times. When all was said and done and the insurance companies finished with all the investigations. It was determined that the BMW driver was the cause of the accident and the BMW drivers insurance company dropped the claim against the company I was driving for.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

That’s an AMAZING story. Must be the first time in history that a person making contact from behind was not at fault. Regardless of pretty much ANYTHING. Edited by Tbone95 - 17 Nov 2022 at 5:38pm |

I encountered one this week. I wasn't sure if it was some kind of fault or what? So someone has determined that flashing brake lights are now better? I am not convinced.

Courts are now accepting Dash Cam footage, lawyers are eating it up and now the truth of idiot drivers NOT the one behind them is coming to light. Not ALL rear end collisions are Rear Auto's fault.

So the flashing is continuous? Or do they flash briefly then stay on. I have seen those that flash briefly, they are intended to be an attention getter before going solid on

If you SLAM on the brakes to cause someone to run into you, thats one thing... If you stop and then run into you, they were following too close.
Am I at fault if I hit a car in front of me because he slammed on his brakes very suddenly? hWhile you may think the accident should be the lead driver's fault for irresponsibly slamming on their brakes, in nearly 100% of cases the rear driver is determined to be at fault. Every driver on the road is responsible for maintaining a safe distance between themselves and the car in front of them.Feb 28, 2019 Edited by steve(ill) - 17 Nov 2022 at 5:58pm |

Yes they flash about 3 times then solid on as stated above. Just the center lamp, not the two outer ones. They are illegal in MN but people still have them regardless.

I'll clarify this for those that are having trouble comprehending this issue. Before I retired I was the senior driver at the company I was at, this put me in the position to deal with driver incidents. This particular incident I mentioned never went to court. The accident report that was written by the officer doing the initial on scene investigation (who reviewed our drivers dashcam at the scene) stated the the BMW driver was the major cause of the accident, therefore our driver was not charged. During the following investigations done by both insurance companies, it was determined that the BMW driver braked hard enough to activate the ABS brakes, This was confirmed by the datalogger in the BMW. The dashcam from our truck showed that there was not any reason for attempting to stop at the intersection that had the overhead flashing yellow lights. there were no other vehicles in front of the BMW or attempting to enter from either side. Therefor the BMWs insurance company dropped its claim toward Our insurance company. A dashcam saved our driver and our insurance company quite a bit of trouble. No matter what the BMW tried to say afterward, the Dashcam was what carried the weight of truth.

A lot of added lights are illegal. In New York, you must have a card (from a fire or ambulance department) to legally run any green, blue or red flashing light.
It is also illegal to run many of these super bright LED lights on the highway. You can have them mounted for off-road use, but can't run them on the road.

Yes. And HISTORICALLY, been very difficult to prove that the lead driver slammed on his brakes "too much". Hence, nearly 100% at fault as you said. This will be sliced and diced and disseminated to the umpteenth degree in the coming years. Like other telemetry needed as the other side pushes back. How much delay between the lead brake lights coming on and trailing vehicle brakes applied? Speed of trailing driver? Condition of brakes, tires, braking forces. Ahhhh.....love perpetual arguments.

It'd be nice if LED brake /tail lights were mandatory. They come on a LOT faster and can give the guy behind a wee bit more of time to react, providing he's not yapping on his phone, selecting toons or having a bowl of wheaties behind the wheel...

One of the many ferd pickups I owned started doing that. We looked for a broken wire, found the brake light switch was going bad.

Quite possible that someone has decided it as an OEM option or aftermarket option. Though as bright as the new LED lights are not sure why they'd be needed.
FYI, There is a flasher module available thru motorcycle aftermarket parts venders that quickly flashes brake lights 3 - 5 times then solid another that continuously flashes rapidly until release brakes. They should be able to go on a car or pickup fairly easy. The LED tailights don't draw many amps.
