Is the oil hole in the rocker shaft oriented correctly? I put it together as taken apart but I don't know if the last guy who had it apart put it together right. This is the engine that had the valves in the wrong locations so I don't trust anything. Any help is appreciated.

I would think the hole should oriented toward the bottom as that would be the wear will occur.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

does the oil come up thru an oil passage in the block and thru a hollow cam shaft holder and then into the hollow cam shaft ?? .... I think the hole in the cam shaft INSIDE the tower should line up to get max oil into the camshaft ??? Then see how to FOLLOWERS fit ?

The engine is a d2800 in my 180. According to the service manual the shaft should have camshaft side etched into it but I can't see it. As it is there isn't much oil moving around in the top end. The tappet cover is dry. I would think more oil should be flying around up there.

Oil comes up thru pressure passage in the block and head then thru a steel line and into the rocker shaft. There is good volume of oil coming out of the return line. If I plug the return more oil comes out around the rocker arms.

why is there a return line ? why not DUMP all the oil onto the rockers and let it run back down the drain hole ? ............. i assume there is a drain hole ?
(im not a 2800 "GUY" .......... just asking a question ... never seen a "return line" ) Edited by steve(ill) - 13 Jun 2022 at 8:16pm |

If I remember correctly, it is right.
The reason for a return tube was to return oil down front push rod hole to keep from fluding top of head. MACK

The rocker shaft is in right. I found the cam side etching where the book shows it. Very faint but it's there.
I am going to change the rocker shaft plugs and restrict the drain line. Hopefully that will help with oiling. Thanks for the help. |
