 Topic: Muffler for a model B??

I have Stanley mufflers on my B,C & CA and they all got water in the motor this summer from rain. The WC/WF/WD45 mufflers do a good job but the others are junk. What do you guys have on the little tractors? Here is a pic of the difference between a B and a WC muffler to show the problem. The WC has a nice drop on the bottom and the B has nothing, it almost guides the water right down the pipe.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I have a Nelson muffler on my B. It's been sitting outside since February and keeps the water out pretty well - at least I assume so, since the tractor isn't running and would have no way to get rid of the water. It turns over fine every time I'm home. I would go out and check the brand, but I'm at college and the tractor is at home.
The picture isn't the best, but it shows how part of the muffler extends over the manifold, where they're bolted together. Of course this won't work for the hood with the small diameter hole, so my picture may not help you much. But if you have a large hole then this should fit right in.

The original CA muffler will shed the water away from entering around the top of the manifold. I personally have chosen to tap out the manifold with an inch and one quarter taper pipe tap and screw in a 1 1/4" pipe nipple and fit a muffler over the outside of the pipe nipple. I call it a never again leak!

I wonder if that would work on old WC unstyled manifolds. they have the same water problem.

Dick, that looks like a good idea. Then you just get a bigger muffler that will slide over it I suppose.

Rick, the unstyled WC's have a drain hole under the sidewinder pipe. It is usually plugged up over time though.

i do as Dick said with the nipple. If you use a schedule 80 thick wall nipple, you can turn down the OD above the thread and slide the original muffler on it - then use a muffler clamp.... or buy a bigger muffler.
