Working on replacing worn gear but can only seem to find one with 27/8 teeth. I’m assuming mine is original being it has I believe 30/8 or31/8 teeth. Rough count. Do I need to replace a gear on counter shaft if I replace gear with the 27/8 gear. Thanks.

If the actual diameter of the gear is the same, but tooth count is different, you must change the gear it mates with so they are the same tooth pitch. Compare it to trying to use #60 chain on #50 sprockets.

What is the best way to remove the counter shaft and reverse idler shaft ,book says to screw in slide hammer threaded fitting into front of shaft but I sure don’t see any threads in the shaft ? Changing bearings on shaft. Thank you.

Reverse idler shaft doesn't need to be removed. Remove front or rear snap ring on the countershaft cup and with a punch or round shaft drive the other end until everything falls down inside.

While I’m asking questions I may as well ask about the 2 special dowel bolts for the shift cover, what do they actually do? Neither of my D19’s have them anymore. Can a guy make a them ? Thank you

Left front corner and right rear corner. They square up the cover to the transmission shafts.
