How does one check the lube level in the front support housing in a WD with a wide front? I sure don't see a check level plug.

Worm gear is supposed to be "one third submerged". Use 140 gear lube for NFE and 250 gear lube for single wheel and WFE.
Of course if the lower seal is leaking (as many are) you may want to use a combination of 250 gear lube and chassis grease to help keep it up there whwere it belongs.

I used Mobil EP grease. It's a little less stiff than common grease gun stuff. Pack the bearings and add the rest of the tube + 1 more.
