 Topic: Return to Cartridge style filters

Been looking at newer machines and vehicles, to address waste levels the manufacturers are returning to Cartridge style filters with reusable housings and end caps. That includes Fuel, Oil and Hydraulic filters. Are now a few upstart companies with Canister kits to convert BACK to Cartridges from spin on filters.
What was old and obsolete is New Again!!

A bunch of total idiots. I converted my Oliver tractor to a spin on oil filter after fighting with it for many years.

I have a Ferguson that has the canister and it's a PITA. Need to do the conversion on it to the spin on filter.

At the factory i worked, most of equip had canister filters... I CHIT canned them all and bought aftermarket spin on filters / new head assembly and piping.. Specked it all out for flow and micron rating.... Canisters always leaked at fittings / o-rings.... of course they were 50 years old also !

We have a 16 RAV4. It has the cartridge filter. You need a special wrench to get the canister off. After I discovered that, I ordered the tool and also a metal canister. The original was plastic. The new filter comes with a new O ring and a drain device. You take the nut out of the bottom of the filter and screw in this drain, It drains the oil outta the filter before you take it off. I was a little upset when I first discovered it, but once I knew, it's a great setup.
My friends shop has a wood burner. It takes care of them lot's better than the can filters.

 That should make a greener cleaner world.  You know how many people get the oil changed a Jerko................ Jiffy Lube(or what ever they go by in your town) and they end up cross threading/stripping the oil plug. I can see them putting a new o ring on the lid of the canaster and not have 1/2 of them leaking.

The new designs are much better than the ones we dealt with years ago. Pretty good to deal with and zero leakage. š

Not all are leak free, several of the Heavy machines I operate are late model with canister filters and most are ooze messes. Change orings or seal gaskets an still ooze, a few canisters also been changed with no change to oozing.
