I want to purchase new gauges for my AC D17 and note that the aftermarket ones are really cheap. Does the old adage, "you get what you pay for apply."

After-market doesn't always mean cheap/inferior. For sure it means "not original looking".

Jesse175 We have our own line of aftermarket gauges that are made in the USA by Rochester (the original OEM). The face graphics have been done to match good original gauges as close as possible. The pricing will be more than the imported aftermarket, but the quality and reliability is fantastic. They look and function like the original. Call for more details (330) 569-7037

Yep, pay a little extra and get good quality stuff. If you can buy 5 gauges for $40 on e-bay, how good do you think they are? Even a partially trained eye can spot the cosmetic differences, let alone the quality (or lack thereof) inside.

I will second that, pay the extra money for quality. Been down that road once, won’t take it again.

The aftermarket gets flooded with all this Chinese crap. The pricing is an attention getter, but the quality just isn't there. Goes along with a lot of other electrical components out there in aftermarket land. Its getting tougher all the time to get good quality components anymore. The old "ya git' what ya pay for" ad still stands solid yet....

And sometimes the sellers of heap cheap gauges think they have a license to scalp ye with big prices too... Pfouts family farm, you have the original style A-C fuel gauge for 170 too?

Jesse175: I do not have a website up and running at this time, but I can send you pictures with prices. Email me - pfoutsfamilyfarm@gmail.com and I can send that out to you. JC: The electric fuel gauge (and temperature gauge for the 170 are still available from AGCO. Steiner did recently start to offer these gauges at a little more than half the cost of AGCO. I did order one of each from them just to see what they were like. They look good, but I have had not sold one or tried it on a tractor to see how well they work. We have not really gone into the electric gauges ourselves yet, though it may be something we get into if there are issues getting them from agco and/or if the steiner gauges prove to be unreliable. The Ammeter to complete the set is also available thru steiner and agco. Agco is less expensive for the ammeter, but will be a 60 amp rather than a 40 amp. Steiner's is a 40 amp as original. The steiner gauges are available thru us if anyone wants to try them. If you are not happy with it, send it back and we will be glad to make it right with you.
