If this is true , and pretty sure it is as Ive heard it on some news today - cant anyone see this is adding to the takeover,, if this needs to go to political , so be it - but dam people ,, also GM and Navistar are partnering up building 6500 series trucks ,, is GM seeing trouble with money or just at its wits end in enginerring?

so.... Japan (Honda) is OUTSOURCING production to the USA(GM) ?

sounds like a win-win to me. American customers get to buy a quality made product and a good amount of taxes will be spent in the USA. As well GM gets an income even more taxes get collected...
well ,in theory of course....the 'devil's in the details' as they say....

GM forms alliance with Honda to develop future products in North America

General Motors and Honda have a deal to share vehicle platforms and technology in North America starting next year. 

On Thursday, the automakers said they signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to establish a North American automotive alliance. The deal came together after extensive discussions. 

The proposed alliance will include sharing a range of vehicles, to be sold under each company’s distinct brands, as well as cooperation in purchasing, research and development, and connected services. 

Honda and GM plan to collaborate on purchasing supplies by leveraging their scale to gain costs savings. Purchasing collaboration would focus on joint sourcing of materials, logistics and localization strategies, GM said.

The alliance will help GM and Honda achieve substantial cost savings, and allow  them to continue to invest in developing future products.

What I read in that is; GM don't know how to build a battery so they are selling their soul to Honda!

I also read; Honda no longer gives a crap about building a quality product!

This 'bottom line' is eye opening....
'substantial cost savings'
actually means HIGHER  priced vehicles as there's NO way ANY  cost savings will be passed onto the customer. Consider how much of a current vehicle is built by ROBOTS...machines whack out the tin, computers build ALL of the electronics(aka 'computers'),rims,tires,nuts,bolts, PLASTICS, glass,painting.. and that's just the beginning of the list. Sadly NO 'cost savings' have been passed onto the buyer.
'substantial cost savings' will just go intot he shareholders dividend cheques after paying off high priced bonuses to the CEO and other '3 lettered' guys at the top.

ANY time there's a 'merger' it's because someone can't make it on their own. Plain and simple....

It sounds like Honda is wanting GM's new Ultium battery technology, GM is after other tech from Honda. Automakers pairing up is becoming more common these days. Ford is in alliance with Volkswagen for much the same reason.

I'm with Jay and John, GM is selling their soul and can't make it on their own - remember Allis and Fiat merger of construction equipment,?? Allis and Seimens merger in electrical ?

Consolidation of efforts is the way things have ben for awhile, Ford IH on engines, GM has outsourced to Japan in past, Chrysler to Mercedes and so on.

ZERO hours.... 10s of 1,000s though designing/programming ROBOTS that do the real work though. I know 'assembly line' work is boaring, I've hand soldered 100s of parts onto 1,000s of PCB 30 years ago. Boaring is the keyword...it wasn't 'hard'. Tossing bales of hay onto a farm wagon for 10 hours,THAT, was hard......specially with my grass allergies !

Cousin 'worked' at the GM engine plant in St. Kitts. He had put down the crossword, get up, press a couple buttons, record the numbers, then go back to his stool......not exactly 'grunt' or 'hard' work.....he go a HUGE friggin buyout 10 years ago.

IMO, THIS is why the "American Made" auto's are PROHIBILITY expensive/POS'S from the get -go, UNIONS WinkWink

Unions DO NOT cause the cars to be "Prohibitively Expensive", the Cost of all the Libretard add on, the emissions devices to compensate for devices already installed to compensate for bad mileage that causes more emissions, and safety features as the Proverbial 5MPH Shock Absorbing Bumpers that were ESTIMATED to cost between 1000-3000 PER CAR, dependent on models, On Air bags to save the Idiots that WILL NOT LEARN HOW TO DRIVE so any car with moderate REPAIRABLE Damage ends up totaled as TOO Expensive to fix once air bag deployed.  The cost of Protecting people from themselves to prove they can make the world ABSOLUTELY SAFE is Preposterous and FOOLISH.    REQUIRING Unapproachable mileage figures while still trying to make a competitive edge machine of comfort.  ALL Thanks to the LIBRETARDS of the USA.

Kalifornication is about to have ALL The FOOD anyone can eat and NO WAY to get it out of the state as the Emissions requirements as to Outstate Trucks entering the Peoples Republic of Kalifornication will end inbound heavy trucks.  Those will wait outside the state lines for another CA Licensed truck to haul out to the border and costs will escalate WIDELY.  Another MASSIVE win/Lose for the Libretards.
